The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) is a comprehensive framework introduced by the Government of India to reform the education system. NEP 2020 aims to make the education system more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, and skill-oriented, with a strong focus on critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
VISION OF NEP 2020:
The vision of NEP 2020 is to transform India’s education system into a holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, and skill-based framework, aligned with the needs of the 21st century. It aims to:
- Ensure universal access to quality education.
- Promote critical thinking, creativity, and experiential learning.
- Foster multilingualism and cultural awareness.
- Emphasize technology integration and digital literacy.
- Make education inclusive, equitable, and globally competitive.
Implementation of NEP 2020
At Gnyanodaya Degree College, we are dedicated to nurturing the holistic development of our students by offering a flexible, relevant, and inclusive education system. With Mumbai University introducing NEP 2020 at the degree level from the 2024-25 academic year, we see this as an excellent opportunity to redefine the learning experience in line with global standards and industry demands. We are committed to implementing NEP 2020 as per the guidelines provided by Mumbai University.
The Framework of the Choice Based Credit System:
- Major Subject: It is the primary area of specialization in a degree program, offering in-depth knowledge and expertise in a specific discipline.
- Minor Subject: Minor subject is a secondary area of study that complements the Major.
- Open Elective (OE): It is a choice-based course that allows students to explore subjects beyond their core discipline, promoting multidisciplinary learning.
- Ability Enhancement Course (AEC): Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) include mandatory language and literature courses aimed at developing linguistic proficiency, communication skills, and cultural awareness.
- Vocational Skill Course (VSC): A Vocational Skill Course focuses on practical, job-oriented skills to enhance employability and industry readiness.
- Skill Enhancement Course (SEC): A Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) in NEP 2020 is designed to develop practical skills and competencies for better employability and career growth.
- Value Education Course (VEC): A Value Education Course (VEC) focuses on instilling ethical values, moral principles, and social responsibility in students.
- Co-curricular Course (CC): For the holistic development of students through culture activities such as Cultural activities, NSS, DLLE etc.
On-Job Training (OJT)/Internship/ Field Project (FP)/ Research Project (RP): Application of knowledge /concepts in solving real life problems. All these are related to Major subjects.
Internal Assessment: Additional Class Test Eligibility
✅ Eligibility to Appear for Additional Class Test
- Learner must applyto the Head of the Institution within 8 days of the exam date.
- Must include valid reasonfor absence with supporting documents/testimonials.
- Absence due to the following is generally accepted:
- Participation in intercollegiate/state/national/international events
- NSS/NCC camps, cultural or sports events
- Coaching/training camps by recognized bodies
- Research festivals
- Any activity authenticated by the Head of Institution
📅 Schedule for Additional Class Test
- Conducted 15 days before the Semester End Exam, after completing all formalities.
Semester End Examination: Additional Exam Eligibility
Who Can Appear
- Learner remained absent/failsdue to:
- Medical reasons
- Representing college/university in valid activities
- Other exceptional circumstances approved by the Principal
- Learners with prior permissionfrom the Principal/HoI may be allowed.
- Duration:
- 5 hours for 75 marks
- 3 hours for 100 marks
- Note:Learners punished under ordinance 5050 are not eligible.
Ex-Student Eligibility
- Ex-students who have failed and missed regular/additional exams in the past can appearin the current additional exam without registering for the regular exam, only if permitted.
- However, appearing is not an automatic right—it is subject to meeting all formal norms.
Timing of Additional Semester End Examination
- For Sem I & II: After Sem II exam (March/April)
- For Sem III & IV: After Sem IV exam (March/April)
- Sem II & IV Additional Exam:
- Held 20–40 daysafter result declaration
Project Evaluation (if applicable)
Rules:
- If student passes all coursesbut fails project (i.e., < Grade D):
- Must resubmit a fresh projectuntil minimum Grade D is obtained
- Previous gradesin other subjects are carried forward
- Viva + Project markstogether must give minimum 40% (Grade D)

The grade sheet is issued based on converted grades and credit weightage of each course.
Carry Forward Rules (R: 8437)
If Learner Passes Internal but Fails Semester-End Exam:
- Must reappear for Semester-End Exam.
- Internal marks are carried forward.
- Final grade is given after passing the semester exam.
If Learner Passes Semester-End but Fails Internal Assessment:
- Must reappear for Internal Assessment.
- Semester-End marks are carried forward.
Final grade is awarded after clearing internal.
Internal Re-exam Structure for Repeaters
Applicable for both practical and non-practical courses:
- Total Marks: 25
- Documentation: 15 marks
- Presentation: 5 marks
- Viva & Interaction: 5 marks

Note on GPA / SGPA / CGPA Calculation
- Grade Pointsare assigned based on the marks obtained in each course.
- These are used to calculate:
- CG: Course Grade
- SGPA: Semester Grade Point Average
- CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average across semesters
